History

Nioro Du Rip: A Beacon of Hope

The Adja Penda Ba School stands as a sanctuary of hope amidst the grip of poverty and despair in the rural Senegalese town of Nioro Du Rip. Built on pillars of empathy and resilience, it emerged to transform generations damaged by a decaying public education system prone to teacher strikes and negligence.

As a catalyst for change, the school nurtures students deprived of learning’s transformative power, equipping them with tools to envision futures unbound by destitution. With compassion at its core, Adja Penda Ba School transcends rote academics to ignite dormant ambitions within each child. It breathes optimism into the wider community, reminding inhabitants that systemic change is attainable. As a beacon against despair, this profound institution challenges the confines of hardship, carrying forth the dreams of local youth through the unwavering power of education.

Weathering the Storm

In dry areas of Senegal, people are very much dependent on agriculture. Typically, school is not in session during July, August and September due to the rainy season. This year, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the school calendar and we have to adjust accordingly.
We have an imminent need to:

  • Make repairs on cracks that have developed on the walls of the school

  • Build a bathroom on the second floor of the main building to create an even safer school environment for our students

Continuing Support for Teachers & Students

We have an ongoing effort to raise funds for student scholarships and teacher salaries.

Our vision is to create a positive learning environment that leads students to higher education and self-sufficiency.
